Genomic organization of the MHC loci

The class II loci are located closest to the
centromere. Each consists of a series of genomic
subunits. The HLA-D region is about 900 kb long
and contains a far greater number of loci than
shown here. In addition, some have been renamed.
For example HLA-DP has two ! and two
" genes, now called A1, A2 and B1, B2, respectively.
